We invite you to enjoy an evening of fine dining on our beautifully appointed MOUNTAIN EXPLORER DINNER TRAIN as it travels through some of the best scenery in the Eastern United States.

Train travel and fine dining have been one of the great pleasures enjoyed by previous generations of Americans. As faster modes of transportation evolved, the magnificent long-distance passenger trains began to disappear, thus bringing to a close the era of dining car service. However, many who remember this romanticized time in history still visualize the unique notions evoked by this unusual combination of dining while gliding effortlessly past towns and rivers, accompanied by the rhythmic melody of the rails.

The recipes for these unique meals are original menu items offered on the great cross-country trains of the 1930-1960 eras. This is a time that saw some of the finest dining in the US being served as the trains sped across the mountains and plains of our great nation.

Complimentary wine will be offered along with your dinner.

Departures for the MOUNTAIN EXPLORER DINNER TRAIN are at 5 PM from the Elkins Depot.

The 2010 schedule is below:
• June 19th
• July 3rd, 17th, and 31st (17th is Murder Mystery)
• August 14th, 28th
• September 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th (18th is Murder Mystery)
• October 3rd, 30th (30th is Murder Mystery to Tygart Junction)
• December 11th (Christmas Special to Tygart Junction)

The four-hour journey will highlight freshly-cooked, four-course meals prepared inside our completely restored dining car and served en-route by the food service professionals from the Railyard Restaurant. The Mountain Explorer train travels through the Monongahela National Forest and stops at the inspirational High Falls of Cheat. Relax and enjoy your dining experience as you watch the setting sun spread hues of amber and pink across the steep ridges surrounding the pristine Shavers Fork of the Cheat River.
