Cheat Mountain Salamander River Restoration Excursion

Be a part of this Special Excursion for a bird’s eye view of efforts to restore the Shavers Fork River to its former glory! Biologists and restoration specialists will join you on the train to answer all your questions and give you the scoop about what led to the changes in the river and what they’re doing to reverse those changes. This is your opportunity to see and hear first-hand what’s happening on this beautiful river. Highlights include: creating new trout habitat and rebuilding the unique spruce forest habitat for rare salamanders on West Virginia’s highest ridges. Group Seating: Every effort will be made to seat groups as close together as possible on the train. Please let us know your needs prior to boarding.
Boarding: Elkins boarding area is located at the Depot on 315 Railroad Avenue in the Downtown area. Ticket office in Elkins is open 45 minutes to an hour prior to departure.
IMPORTANT INFO: If you have a reservation, your eTicket will be scanned as you board the train. You may also purchase tickets at the ticket window. If you forget your eTicket, we can print them for you.
Cancellation Policy: If cancellations are made within 48 hours prior to boarding, there will be no refund. If notice of cancellation is made before 48 hours before departure, a 10% cancellation will be charged to any refund. You may reschedule at any time with no charges for a trip in the 2016 season. Gift certificates can be issued for the full amount of the reservation at any time.
