One-of-a-kind Star Gazing event for 2014!

Board the Cheat Mountain Salamander at Cheat Bridge for a night-time excursion into the depths of the wilderness to study the stars. Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) staff will guide you through the night-time sky via telescopes. Campfire and s’mores! Bring a camping chair, flashlight and jacket for this outdoor excursion.

Departs Cheat Bridge 7 pm

Returns to Cheat Bridge 10 pm

Directions from Elkins to Cheat Bridge:
Take Rt 250 South for 31.6 miles. The sign for Cheat Bridge is on your right.

From the South:
Take 219 North to Huttonsville, WV and turn right on 250 South for 13 miles. The sign for Cheat Bridge is on your right.

Fall Photo Freight Along the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River

OCTOBER 12, 2014Join Chase Gunnoe Photography for a rare opportunity to photograph the Chesapeke & Ohio  freight scheme F7(A) No. 7094 and a special freight train during the middle of West Virginia’s premiere fall foliage week in October.While restored and painted into this unique C&O paint scheme in 2013, the locomotive has not yet been featured in a photographer’s special until now.

Departs Elkins Depot at 8 am
Returns to Elkins 5 pm for dinner at the RailYard Restaurant
Group re-joins at Elkins Depot 7 pm for a night photo session. Features Western Maryland, Chesapeake & Ohio, and Baltimore & Ohio
diesels. The night photo session will offer a rare chance to photograph
three different railroads that played important roles into moving various
goods and commodities through West Virginia in their day.

Reservations Required. No reservations after 1pm the day of the trip. It is highly recommended you book in blocks of four. Our trains are set up with four-top tables so we can serve you Hot Chocolate.

YOUR eTICKETS: Choose your preferred departure time, click on the link and use the blue arrows on the top left of the calendar to scroll forward to your desired 2014 date. Choose your date, car, seats and complete the reservation. Your eTickets will be emailed to you. Should you decide to change your departure time, clear your browser cache first. Your eTickets will be emailed to you in one email and will be in a zip format. Just click twice to open and print all your tickets. (Oh, and if you don’t see your tickets, check your spam box.)

Boarding: Elkins boarding area is located at the Depot on 315 Railroad Avenue in the Downtown area. The ticket office is open 1.5 hours prior to departure and passengers should plan to arrive at least 45-60 minutes prior to departure. Don’t forget your eTickets. If you do forget your eTicket, come to our ticket window in the Railroad Depot and we can print your ticket(s) for you.

It’s a good idea to go to the ticket window and pre-board.

If you have a smart device and can access your email, you may present your eTicket PDF at the ticket window for pre-boarding. Polar Express Cancellation Policy: Tickets are non-refundable 48 hours after booking. If notice of cancellation is made within 48 hours of booking, a 10% cancellation fee will be charged for any refund.
