Cass Scenic Railroad recognized as Top 10 scenic train trips around the World

CASS, W.Va. — USA Today has included West Virginia’s Cass Scenic Railroad as one of its Top 10 scenic train trips around the World to see lakes, mountains and gorgeous vistas. Cass is one of only two railroads in the United States to be included in the list, sharing the top honors with Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner in southern California, and a host of other global scenic trains.

“We are honored to be recognized by USA Today as a top destination in the World for beautiful views by rail,” says Chase Gunnoe, the marketing and business development manager for the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad.

USA Today’s 10BEST Readers’ Choice also recognized Cass as a Top 10 destination for best scenic train rides in 2019. It is the railroad’s second time making the readers’ choice list. Other recent stories have promoted Cass and West Virginia Tourism through publications like Oprah Magazine and regional outdoor publications.

“Our railroad attractions are reaching new audiences thanks to these recent mentions, Gunnoe says. “We’re seeing tourists traveling on our rails from all across the United States and several countries internationally.”

The Cass Scenic Railroad operates tourist trains six days a week on Tuesdays through Sundays. Its flagship, 4.5-hour ride to Bald Knob departs Tuesday through Sunday at 12pm Noon and the shorter, 2-hour Whittaker Station trips depart at 11am and 2pm on Tuesdays and Fridays through Sundays.

“Advanced reservations are encouraged, especially as our fall trains begin to fill up,” Gunnoe adds.
