Hop aboard the New Tygart Flyer in Elkins, WV!
This wilderness excursion features mountain grades, an “S” curve tunnel, a high bridge and miles of unspoiled mountain views. Vintage diesel-powered locomotives climb along the cascading Shavers Fork of the Cheat River to the High Falls of Cheat. Enjoy the view relaxing aboard our comfortable climate controlled passenger coaches.
This vintage diesel-powered passenger train has gained a reputation as one of the most relaxing mountain wilderness excursions in our Mountain Rail Adventure portfolio. The 4-hour, 46 mile round trip departs at 11 a.m. from the restored Elkins Depot on Railroad Avenue.
On the trip to the Falls, enjoy a cold cut lunch, which is included in the ticket price. The trip culminates at the High Falls of Cheat, an 18′ high, 150′ wide waterfall located in one of the most remote and pristine settings in the region. If notice of cancellation is made prior to 48 hours before departure, we will be able to issue a 90% monetary refund (booking fees are non-refundable). If cancellation is made within 48 hours before departure, there will be no monetary refund. However, you may reschedule at any time for another date in the current season. Gift cards can also be issued for the full ticket amount (minus booking fees) at any time and will not expire. If you paid with only a credit card, self-cancellation is available via the “View Online” link in your booking confirmation email. The New Tygart Flyer features enclosed cars with assigned seating. When booking the Regular Service (formerly known as “Buffet Service”) cars, you will choose your own seats at traditional 4-top tables. Regular Service tickets include a cold cut lunch (with non-alcoholic beverages such as water, tea, and coffee) served onboard. When booking the Parlor Service, seating will be CUSTOM, which means we will pre-arrange tables to seat you together based on your party size. If parties with separate bookings (i.e., Jones party of 2 and Smith party of 4) want to be seated together in the Parlor Car, please add a note to the comments box when completing payment so that we can make every effort to seat your parties close together. Parlor Car tickets include upgraded lunch options in addition to a selection of desserts and wine provided by a personal car host. Tips not included in Parlor Car ticket price – cash bar after one complimentary glass of wine.

Due to the historical nature of the equipment and a non-standard platform, the New Tygart Flyer out of Elkins is not wheelchair accessible. There are multiple steps to board the Flyer, but there are handrails to help.
