Delivered in November 1905 for the original Cass-based railroad, West Virginia Spruce Lumber Co.’s Greenbrier & Elk River R.R. No. 5 is the oldest and longest-operating Shay at Cass. At 119 year’s old, the 5 is the oldest operational Shay in the world and the official steam locomotive of West Virginia!
