Your boarding address is printed on your confirmation email. We have two stations you may board our excursions: Elkins Depot or Cass Depot. Be sure to use the address printed to look up directions for your drive. You want to arrive at your station at least 1/2 hour prior to your departure.
-
All excursions departing our Cass Depot feature steam engines. This includes the Cass to Whittaker Station, Cass to Bald Knob, and Greenbrier Express.
-
For the New Tygart Flyer and Elkins Winter Special, the Parlor Car is our upgraded seating. Added amenities include no children under age 12 allowed, tables set according to the size of your party (up to 4 at one table), more comfortable chairs, panoramic views on the return trip, more options on the buffet (which is private and set up directly in the Parlor Car), and adult beverages (wine only). The Regular Service features standard 4-top tables in larger cars that allow children. The meal is served in a separate car (Concession Car). Car hosts escort small groups in each Regular Service car to the Concession Car in order for folks to retrieve their meal and return to their assigned car.
-
All excursions out of Elkins feature diesel engines. This includes the New Tygart Flyer, Elkins Winter Special, and Ramps & Rails Trains.
-
All trains departing from the Cass depot with the exception of the Cass Christmas Train and Greenbrier Express are wheelchair accessible (Car D on Whittaker Station and Car G on Bald Knob are the accessible cars on those trains). Due to the historical nature of the equipment, the New Tygart Flyer, Elkins Winter Special, Cass Christmas Train, and the Greenbrier Express are not wheelchair accessible. There are multiple steps to board each of these trains, but there are handrails to help.

New Tygart Flyer, Elkins Winter Special, and Ramps & Rails Trains. These trains feature enclosed, climate-controlled cars with assigned seating. When booking the Regular Service (formerly known as “Buffet Service”) cars, you will choose your own seats at traditional 4-top tables. When booking the Parlor Service, seating will be CUSTOM, which means we will pre-arrange tables to seat you together based on your party size.
-
Our Bald Knob and Whittaker Station trains departing from Cass features open-air cars (they have roofs but are open on the sides) and general seating. Once onboard, passengers will be able to choose their own seats (first come, first served). The Bald Knob train features open-air cars (they have roofs but are open on the sides) and seating is at traditional wooden benches. When booking, you will choose a car on the train which will be your car assignment on the day of your trip (Car A is closest to the engine while Car I is farthest away from the engine). Once aboard your assigned car, you will then choose your own seats. The Whittaker Station train features open-air cars (they have roofs but are open on the sides) and seating is at traditional wooden benches. When booking, you will choose a car on the train which will be your car assignment on the day of your trip (Car A is closest to the engine while Car E is farthest away from the engine). No. Alcohol, smoking, and illegal substances of any kind are prohibited onboard. Wine is served on the Parlor Car of the New Tygart Flyer only.
-
It depends on which train you are riding. No food is served on the Cass to Whittaker Station train. The concession stand that was previously available at the Whittaker Station stop is no longer in operation. Therefore, we recommend packing a picnic for that train, but we do not allow large coolers onboard. Handheld coolers and backpacks full of snacks/beverages are allowed. All outside beverages must be in closed containers. The Cass to Bald Knob train and the New Tygart Flyer both serve a lunch onboard. If you need to bring your own lunch due to dietary restrictions, that is no problem, but the same rules for outside food/beverages would apply to those trains as they do for the Whittaker Station train.
-
Regular Service tickets include a cold cut cafeteria-style lunch (with non-alcoholic beverages such as water, tea, and coffee) served onboard in the Concession Car. The meal is basically a buffet version of the bagged lunch that is included on the Bald Knob train. Parlor Car tickets include upgraded lunch options in addition to a selection of desserts and wine provided by a personal car host. Tips are not included in Parlor Car ticket price – cash bar after one complimentary glass of wine.
-
Pets are not allowed on any of our trains. Service animals are allowed provided that they are required due to a disability. Emotional support animals do not qualify as service animals and are not allowed.
-
Smoking is strictly prohibited on any of our trains, even those that feature open-air cars. Customers may smoke once they have detrained.
-
Elkins parking is available behind the depot in designated spaces around town square as well as in a gravel area along the train tracks south of the depot.
