The West Virginia Central Railroad (WVC) is a common carrier freight railroad operated by the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad (DGVR), a company known for managing both freight services and regional tourist railroads throughout West Virginia.
As a common carrier, the WVC is obligated to provide rail service to any customer along its line who requests it, making it an essential transportation link for industries in the Tygart Valley region. The railroad operates scheduled and on-demand freight movements between Tygart Junction (TVGJC) and Elkins (FSAC 66179), supporting a wide range of commodities including timber products, aggregates, agricultural supplies, and manufactured goods. In addition to its mainline freight operations, the WVC provides industrial switching services, moving railcars between the main track and customer-owned spurs to support efficient loading and unloading. The line also serves two transload facilities, enabling businesses without direct rail access to transfer freight between trucks and railcars, expanding the railroad’s reach throughout the region.
At Tygart Junction, the WVC interchanges with the CSX Transportation (CSXT) network through the Appalachian & Ohio Railroad (AORR), giving shippers access to the broader North American rail system. This strategic connection ensures reliable inbound and outbound logistics for customers across the Mid-Atlantic and beyond.
