This vintage diesel-powered passenger train departs at 11 a.m. from the restored Elkins Depot on Railroad Avenue.

On the trip along the Tygart River to Tygart Junction, enjoy a cold cut lunch, which is included in the ticket price. If you’re looking for comfort and spectacular river views on a vintage train this is the ride for you!

Important Seating Note:

The Elkins Winter Special train features enclosed cars with assigned seating. When booking the Regular Service (formerly known as “Buffet Service”) cars, you will choose your own seats at traditional 4-top tables. Regular Service tickets include a cold cut lunch (with non-alcoholic beverages such as water, tea, and coffee) served onboard. When booking the Parlor Service, seating will be CUSTOM, which means we will pre-arrange tables to seat you together based on your party size. If parties with different last names want to be seated together in the Parlor Car, please add a note to the comments box when completing payment. Parlor Car tickets include upgraded lunch options in addition to a selection of desserts and wine provided by a personal car host. Tips not included in Parlor Car ticket price – cash bar after one complimentary glass of wine.

 

Pet Policy:

We DO NOT allow pets on any of our excursions. Service animals which are required due to a disability are allowed.

 

ADA Info:

Due to the historical nature of the equipment and a non-standard platform, this train is not wheelchair accessible. There are multiple steps to board the train , but there are handrails to help.

Important Info: Our ticket office opens approximately an hour prior to departure time. The ticket office is located on the first floor of the ELKINS depot. ELKINS boarding area is adjacent to the depot. Free parking is located one block north of the depot adjacent to the Railyard Restaurant and Summit Church and across from the Holiday Inn Express. Look for the sign for RAILROAD PARKING. Restrooms are available inside the depot. Please bring your PRINTED OR DIGITAL CONFIRMATION/TICKETS with you. Boarding starts approximately 15 minutes prior to departure, and you will be checked in as you board. If you do not have access to your confirmation/tickets, please plan to arrive at least a half hour prior to departure to check in at the ticket window and pick up your tickets. When checking in, we ask that ONLY ONE person from your party check in all tickets for your party.

Cancellation Policy*: If notice of cancellation is made prior to 48 hours before departure, we will be able to issue a 90% monetary refund (booking fees are non-refundable). If cancellation is made within 48 hours before departure, there will be no monetary refund. However, you may reschedule at any time for another date in the current season. Gift cards can also be issued for the full ticket amount (minus booking fees) at any time and will not expire. If you paid with only a credit card, self-cancellation is available via the “View Online” link in your booking confirmation email. If you paid with a gift card, please contact a Mountain Rail WV customer service representative at 304-636-9477 to cancel. Send all general reservation inquiries to ticketinfo@mountainrail.com.
