Experience our new Cass Camp Car Overnight Rental in Cass, West Virginia!
The Cass Camp Car is a bona fide piece of West Virginia history. It’s actually Mower Lumber Co. #419, the last survivor of the fleet of Cass-built camp cars that moved with the high-line skidders across the vast forests on Cheat Mountain from 1940 until closing in 1960. With exception to the truss rods and trucks, it’s constructed entirely out of wood. It will be parked on a custom built siding 1.7 miles north (railroad east) of Cass. Customers will ride from Cass up to the Camp Car in a caboose pulled by one of the Cass steam locomotives. The caboose will be placed against the end of the Camp Car and a platform laid down for easy access between the two. The Camp Car itself has enough sleeping arrangements for four people.The attached caboose has two bunks that sleep one person each. This arrangement allows six people to stay overnight: four in the Camp Car and two in the caboose.
The Camp Car has room for up to six people and includes a refrigerator, range, heat, linens, towels, utensils, full-size shower, and restroom. A personal load of firewood will be provided for your campfire. Due to the location being a part of the National Radio Quiet Zone, no cell phone service is available.
Pickup/Dropoff
Camp Car departures are at 11:30 AM.
Camp Car pick-ups are made at 1:15 PM.

If notice of cancellation is made more than 2 weeks in advance of departure date, we will be able to issue you an 85% monetary refund (booking fees are non-refundable). If cancellation is requested within 2 weeks of your departure date, full price will be charged with no monetary refund available, though we would be to reschedule your booking for another date in the current season (if available) or issue you a gift card for the full amount paid (minus booking fees) that will be good as payment towards a future booking and will not expire. If you paid with a credit card, self-cancellation is available via the “View Online” link in your booking confirmation email. Please note there is NO cell phone service. Pets, smoking, and alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Paid advance reservations are required for this excursion. Reservation must be paid in full at time of booking. Plan to arrive at 10:30am to load your gear on the Camp Car, as the train will pull out of the station promptly at 11:30am. Please remember Cass is in the mountains and driving time is a little slower. Check-in location is the Cass Depot, 12363 Cass Road, Cass, WV 24927.
